Online-Seminar: Designing and Facilitating Effective Self-Study Phases in the Age of AI
Self-study phases are a cornerstone of effective teaching, whether in blended, hybrid, or flipped learning environments. Yet simply providing learning materials rarely ensures that students engage with them meaningfully. How can instructors design self-study activities that motivate students to prepare actively, especially in the age of generative AI? And how can these learning phases be connected effectively to synchronous teaching?
In this workshop, you yourself will first complete a short self-study phase of approximately 90 minutes, applying the concepts to your own teaching. In our live online session, we will discuss strategies for designing motivating self-directed learning experiences, creating purposeful learning activities, and connecting asynchronous and synchronous learning in ways that promote meaningful participation.
The seminar is delivered in a flipped classroom format. It consists of a preparatory self-study phase equivalent to 2 teaching units (AE), followed by an online session equivalent to 4 teaching units (AE).
