Teaching Tools on Demand: Creating Custom Applications with AI [DiL]
This 2-hour workshop shows you how to build custom applications for your courses without needing to learn programming. Using AI platforms like Claude Code, you'll describe what you want in plain language and get working tools in return – things like quiz generators, interactive visualizations, or whatever fits your specific teaching needs.
We'll work through examples together, building actual tools during the session and talking through how to adapt them for different situations. The aim is to help you turn your ideas into reality and cut down on repetitive work, whether you're teaching physics, literature, or anything else.
No technical background required – just bring ideas for tools that would make your teaching easier or more effective. By the end, you'll have working examples and enough understanding to keep building on your own.
Afterwars you are able to:
- Set up and configure Claude Code for local development
- Plan and structure projects with AI assistance
- Organize code effectively for both small tools and larger applications
- Debug and troubleshoot issues in AI-generated projects
Theo Renaud:
With over 20 years of experience in media production, Theo is a freelancer whose main focus is video production, complemented by a strong background in web, interaction, and user experience design. Over the years, he's realised projects for clients including eBay, Google, and Nissan. He studied Communication & Multimedia Design at the University of Applied Sciences in Utrecht, the Netherlands.
Other key focus areas have been 360° video and photography, livestreaming, and building interactive experiences with the user at the center. He loves creating products and experiences that others can use to enrich and simplify their lives — the latest being the "One-Button Video Studio" at the University of Bayreuth.
With the rise of AI, he sees a real shift in what's possible: where before technical skills were the bottleneck for realising ideas, now — at least when it comes to building tools — it's creativity that's the only limiting factor.
