Academics' Roles and Responsibilities in Higher Education
In today's academic environment, scientific and teaching staff usually juggle a multitude of tasks and roles in their daily work. However, it's not always evident which tasks, processes, and outcomes educators are responsible for, what they feel accountable for due to personal beliefs, and what lies beyond their realm of responsibility. This ambiguity can shape a professional self-concept that may lead to dedication, but also to indifference or unrealistically high expectations regarding teaching duties.
This workshop is designed for lecturers and academic staff at higher education institutions who wish to reflect on and develop their roles and responsibilities in the academic context. In this interactive course, participants will critically examine their self-perception as educators and explore the diverse expectations placed upon them. Together, we will investigate the concept of "responsibility" in the higher education context and analyze the various responsibilities of different actors in the university system. The aim of the workshop is to develop a deeper understanding of one's own role, clearly define responsibilities, and develop strategies to meet these effectively. Through group work and reflective exercises, participants will gain practical tools to make their teaching more conscious and effective.
