Integrate the Oral Exam Simulator to prepare your students for oral exams [DiL]

Oral exams can be especially demanding for students. They require a mix of expert knowledge, communication skills, spontaneous reactions, and stress management—often without the chance to rehearse or get meaningful feedback. That’s exactly where we want to jump in. In this seminar, we’ll try out a new simulator for oral exams that uses artificial intelligence to recreate realistic exam conversations. We’ll explore the possibilities together—and start writing our own prompts to control the simulator and shape exam situations tailored to your subject area.

The system combines advanced components:

  • Digital avatar that acts as an examiner in the simulation
  • Large language model (LLM) that generates authentic and adaptive exam dialogues
  • Rhetoric analysis software (NOVA) that tracks gestures, eye contact, and speech patterns
  • AI-powered content analysis that evaluates answers based on subject and communication quality
  • Detailed feedback based on real data—immediately available for your students

The simulator is already being used in pilot mode and is continuously being improved. As a participant, you can test it right away with your students.

In this seminar, you’ll have the chance to:

  • Analyze your current oral exam formats and explore how AI can support them
  • Start writing your own prompts and assessment criteria
  • Design exam scenarios that combine simulator use with your teaching
  • Create support materials for students to train with the simulator
  • Develop a concept for practical implementation in the upcoming semester
  • Learn how to interpret feedback data for student development

By the end of the seminar, you will be able to:

  • Reflect critically on the use of AI in oral exam situations
  • Evaluate the ethical and didactic aspects of behavior tracking tools
  • Create concrete plans to integrate the simulator into your courses
  • Adapt the tool to their own discipline and explore ideas for further development
