Constructive Alignment: linking learning objectives, teaching and exams
Constructive Alignment is an idea that helps lecturers at universities to think about teaching and exams as a single, clear plan. If they plan a lesson that focuses on what students will be able to do by the end of the course, ideas and theories make more sense to the students because they become tools that help them solve the problems they will face. This approach also helps to create exams that focus on students' skills rather than just on memorising facts. The idea behind this approach is called "Constructive Alignment" because it makes sure that learning outcomes, teaching and exams are all constructively aligned to each other.
This short session will give you some ideas and tools to plan your lecture and exam using the Constructive Alignment approach. Please bring material of your own teaching, and there will be time to adapt the ideas to your needs.
The people taking part...
- understand that it's more reasonable to focus on what students can do at the end of the course than on "knowledge" or "content".
- plan their lectures so that students can master the things they need to by the and of the Course.
- relate learning objectives, teaching and exams to each other.
Das Online-Seminar ist der Aufbaustufe zugeordnet.
To take part in this session, you should already have some experience of teaching at university and a basic understanding of teaching and learning from other seminars of the ZHD (or equivalent).
