CANCELED: Mastering Academic English: Avoiding Common Pitfalls

The goal of this one-day seminar/workshop is to improve the participants’ English language proficiency and ability to speak more naturally and fluently. Specific focus will be placed on the most common and widespread mistakes and errors made by German speakers of English.

Content:

  • verb tenses -  the three biggest mistakes
  • prepositions and phrasal verbs - the most difficult syntactical challenge
  • stress and intonation patterns - strategies for accent reduction
  • lexical crossover - avoiding false friends and pseudo-anglicisms
  • speaking naturally - using collocations, question tags, echo questions, short answer patterns


Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this workshop, participants will have had the opportunity to:

  • recognize and identify the typical mistakes of German speakers in English
  • incorporate strategies to avoid common pitfalls and errors
  • improve abiity to self-correct
  • speak more naturally and fluently
